Hello fellow grownups! I wanted to take this opportunity to encourage you all to consider volunteering for Bingo. Perhaps you're in the same position I was a couple of years ago: new to Central and wanting to contribute as a volunteer in some way, but wondering how you'll find the time. Bingo is your answer! It is high impact and low commitment. Financially speaking, it's by far the most important fundraiser for the school, bringing in about $25,000 per year. And if our volunteer roster is full, each person only has to do three 2-hour shifts over the entire year.
Bingo volunteering is VERY easy. The online training module is short (20-30 mins if I recall correctly) and uncomplicated. Then you'll be sent the schedule of Central's shifts, which are mostly on Sunday afternoons from 12-2pm or 2-4pm. We all sign up according to our own availability. Your first shift will be a "shadowing" shift, where you'll be paired with an experienced volunteer. We always work in pairs, and did I mention that it's very easy? The volunteers aren't involved with the actual game of Bingo in any way - our jobs are basically to keep the space tidy by clearing dishes and cleaning tables after games. A 2-hour shift earns $1200 for the school.
Please do consider it. Central is assigned a certain number of shifts per year, and if we can't find volunteers to work those shifts we receive infractions and risk losing our spot in the program. We have come dangerously close to this point. The loss of Bingo revenue would be devastating for the school.

Concussion Protocols
The Limestone District School Board is committed to helping all students succeed and lead safe, healthy, and active lives. As part of its commitment to student safety, injury prevention, and well-being, the Ministry of Education supports concussion awareness, prevention, identification, management, tracking, and training in schools through legislation, policy, and resources.
On March 7, 2018, the Ontario government enacted Rowan’s Law (Concussion Safety), 2018, and amended the Education Act, to protect amateur athletes, including students, by improving concussion safety on the field and at school. The amendments to the Education Act came into force on July 1, 2019, and give the Minister of Education the authority to require school boards to comply with policy and guidelines on concussions, consistent with Rowan’s Law.
All school boards in Ontario are required to have a policy on concussion safety for students. These are outlined in Administrative Procedure 142: Concussions, as well as a variety of supporting resources and documents that outline a code of conduct for students and families, flow charts to identify and diagnose a concussion and assessment and management forms. The Ontario Physical Activity and Safety Standards in Education has information on their website regarding the concussion protocol.
