School Procedures & General Information
Dropping Off and Picking Up Your Child
Please drop your child off in the playground at the back of the school. A teacher will be supervising the playground at 8:45 a.m. We ask students not to enter the school until the morning bell rings because there is no official supervision inside the school until 9:00 a.m. At dismissal time, classes will be walked to their respective doors by the teacher, at which point you are more than welcome to pick up your child.
Attendance and Absence Notification
Students are expected to attend school regularly, be punctual, and participate in all classes. Children who must leave for an appointment need to have a note, and must be picked up and signed out at the main office. If returning the same day, they are asked to sign in. Arrangements to go home with friends should be made prior to arriving at school and notes from the parents of both students must be received at the office.
The Advance Absence Program was put into place to help ensure that children arrive safely at school. Your cooperation in notifying the school when your child is absent for illness, appointments, etc. is essential and greatly appreciated. Simply leave us a message at 613-546-9454, the answering machine is available 24 hours a day.
It is also important that an emergency phone number be given on the pupil registration form in case of illness. The parent, guardian or emergency contact person will be called so that the student may convalesce in a more comfortable setting.
If a child arrives at school after the bells for classes have rung, they must check in at the office before proceeding to their classroom with a late slip. Repeated lateness will result in home contact.
All visitors to the school (i.e. parents dropping off lunches, guest speakers, helpers, someone picking up a child...) must report to the main office and sign in.
When riding a bus, students are expected to behave according to the Code of Behaviour. The following specific rules apply.
• listen to the bus driver
• no swearing
• no smoking
• no eating
• act safely and responsibly
If a student’s behaviour becomes unacceptable and the driver is not able to immediately rectify the situation, the matter will be brought to the attention of the principal. A student may loose the privilege to ride the bus. Students may transport items on the bus, which are related to school life such as notebooks, library materials, musical instruments and lunches. Entry of large equipment will be refused in order to ensure the safety of all.
Computer Use Policy
A Computer Use Policy will be sent home early September for Parents/Students to sign.
The Lost and Found Box
A Lost & Found Box is located near the main office and on the 2nd floor. Parents are encouraged to label all personal belongings.
Reduce, Reuse and Recycle
Classroom routines have been developed to reduce school waste and to assist students in becoming more environmentally responsible. Each classroom has a blue recycle box for daily paper recycling and compost containers. We now recycle plastic and milk cartons. This year we are encouraging garbage-less lunches. Several times during the school year, students will take part in yard clean-up in order to assist with the maintenance of a clean and safe playground.
Information about insurance will be sent home at the beginning of the school year. If you are interested in getting insurance, forms are to be mailed directly from your home to the insurance company. Proof of insurance is mandatory for all students in order to participate in all school outings and extra-curricular sport activities.
The school provides textbooks, resource materials, notebooks and writing supplies. Students are expected to treat these things with care. Your child will also need a backpack, lunch bag, indoor and outdoor shoes as well as appropriate clothing to go outside at recesses.
